JRA Podcast 5th Anniversary / JRA 9th Anniversary!
Hey Jewel Fans! It’s been a minute since we’ve said hello, but we couldn’t let our annual anniversary go by without comment! September 10th is Jewel Rider’s birthday, and the birthday of the website and the whole JRA project.
Happy Fifth Anniversary of the Jewel Riders Archive Podcast!
It’s hard to believe that since then, we have published 33 episodes of the podcast over the last 5 years. It may not seem like much, but when you remember that all episodes are focused on Jewel Riders, or closely related properties we find it pretty impressive! In our latest episode, Chris and Ronnie reflect on archiving fandom over the last nine years, and what it means in a broader cultural context. We also chat about our thoughts on the Jewel Riders comic from Maverick!
We’d love it if you give the show a listen and let us know what you think!
Happy Ninth Anniversary of the Jewel Riders Archive!
Can you believe the website has been running NINE YEARS?! Even though we’ve slowed down in our updating and let some of the social media accounts go a bit dormant, we are still working on things both here and over on our YouTube channel.
For instance, did you know we’re making motion comics of our “Circle of Friends” comic pages from a few years back, complete with voiceover? We also recently cut together the preview of the new Maverick comic into a more basic motion comic!
New Redbubble Products
To celebrate the comic’s release, we’ve released a few new designs on our Redbubble shop. We hope you find something you’d enjoy to represent Jewel Riders in your day-to-day life!
Speaking of merchandise…for the upcoming 30th anniversary we are curious if you would be interested in any new pins or an updated zine? We’ve had requests for the Jewel Pins we sold on our Etsy shop, as well as a re-run of the 25th anniversary zine.
Tenth Anniversary of Chris’s Jewel Riders prequel novel
Thinking about the new comic reminded us that there are lots of fan made works out there for Jewel Riders! Telling further stories and adventures has long been a fun pastime for Jewel Riders fans. We host a bunch of them here on the site, particularly those rescued from Stormy’s Avalon web site. Chris has written a number of fan fictions himself, including a few short stories (one of which we adapted into a Halloween podfic for the podcast!)
Chris’s longest work, written between 2008-2014 was “Heart Stone: A Tale of Tamara” that traces the pink-haired Jewel Rider from her humble origins on the Heartland Farm to training in both her musical magic and as the next Heart Stone rider under the previous generation of Jewel Riders. It’s a long one, coming in at 92,599 words! But it is a complete story with an ending, thankfully never abandoned like so many fic ideas.
Thanks for sticking with us all these years and making our fandom archiving work both fun and rewarding. We adore you all!
Friends Together, Friends Forever!
