Happy 30th Anniversary!

Happy 30th Anniversary to Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders!

And Happy 10th Anniversary to the Jewel Riders Archive!

Hey Jewel Fans!

Happy 30th Anniversary to Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders! Can y’all believe it’s been thirty years since our favorite princess met her bonded unicorn and joined together with her friends to save the kingdom of Avalon from Wild Magic? Jewel Riders has been such a magical part of our lives for so long, three-quarters of our lives! Over those years, the show and characters we love have been associated with so many good memories, discoveries of new behind-the-scenes information, and enthusiastic support for a “forgotten” magical girl show.

The 30th of PGJR also coincides with the 10th Anniversary of the Jewel Riders Archive! We could not believe that when we were conceiving and launching the Archive a decade ago that we would still be the bearers of the Sun Stone torch all these years later. It has truly been a labor of love (and occasional frustration haha). But on the whole, it has been an honor and a privilege to host the Archive for ten years, and we sincerely hope you have enjoyed everything we’ve shared. (And gals and guys, there has been SO MUCH that we’ve shared. If you haven’t gone through the pages of the JRA we strongly recommend setting aside some time to enjoy everything we have here.)

The Jewel Riders Archive Podcast

Over on our podcast, we are finally getting around to the thing that most fan podcasts are built around: episode reviews! Yes friends, after ten years Chris and Ronnie are finally rating and reviewing every episode of Jewel Riders. Check out our first episode of reviews, covering the first five episodes of the show: Jewel Quest Parts 1 and 2, Travel Trees Can’t Dance, Wizard’s Peak, and Song of the Rainbow. Subsequent episodes will cover 4-5 episodes of the show each until we’ve finished reviewing the rest of the show. These episodes will likely serve as our final episodes of the podcast for the foreseeable future. We feel we’ve touched on almost everything we possibly can in our episodes over the last five years, and this set of reviews feels like a nice bow to put on our time on the podcast. We’d never say never about possibly returning afterward to record more episodes, especially if there’s new things for Jewel Riders on the horizon. But we hope you enjoy these episodes as much as we have recording them, sharing memories that have stayed with us the last thirty years.

New and Returning Merch!

To help celebrate the 30th, we listened to everyone who’s asked for a reprint of the 25th Anniversary Zine, as well as a re-run of the Enchanted Jewel pins from 5 years ago. You can find them back in stock in the Etsy shop!

And special for the 30th Anniversary, we are debuting a new piece – a special, double-sided acrylic charm keychain featuring the girls and a holographic border and a metallic pink heart clasp. We hope you enjoy it! And remember, every purchase goes to supporting the archival work done here on the site, and ensuring the site can remain up and running.
(Side note on the charm: both sides of the acrylic feature a protective film – please peel it away if it appears scuffed!)

From now until the end of September, use the code “HAPPY30TH” for 10% off everything in the Etsy shop!

A Special Note from Greg Autore, Creative Director of Jewel Riders

During my many decades of designing and developing toys, three projects stand out where I truly invested my heart in the work. Princess Gwenevere and the Jewel Riders was one of those projects. It was a joy not only to design the main characters and exciting costumes for multiple adventures, but to help build and shape the world of Enchanted Camelot. I had the privilege of creating new characters and their storylines, which evolved into scripts and made the world richer.

There were many other areas we wanted to explore, but the brand was cut short by the ongoing mystery of when and where the show would air again.

It was heartwarming to build characters who faced challenges they were empowered to solve by using the power of their wits, the power of their friendships, and the power of a little wild magic.

As people today label certain characters and animated programs as “empowerment”, it is comforting to know I was part of building one of the first that empowered girls and all children.

Princess Gwenevere has a place in my heart. But I am warmed by the passion of the fans who also continue to keep Enchanted Camelot alive in their hearts.

Celebrating years of art from friend of the Archive, Hubbabubbagumpop!

If there’s been one thing we can count on at the Archive over the last decade, it’s that Hubbabubbagumpop, an amazing artist from Sweden, will pull things from our brains and make them real. They have entertained and delighted us over the years, and we wanted to take a moment to thank them for their work and to showcase their pieces. (Extra special mention from Chris about all the inclusion of the oft-forgotten Pack boys!)

Thank You For Being a Friend…

Circle of Friends, it is with mixed emotions that we chat about this final piece of our update. After a decade spent in Avalon, we are ending updates on YouTube for the foreseeable future as well as regular site updates here at the JRA. It has been a huge labor of love to share all of our photo and video content, fan works, and more over the years, and it has been an experience we cherish. But as we continue to grow in new creative directions, we have had to take a long look at our energy (we’re no spring unicorns!) and our time. Fear not though – the site is not going anywhere! It will remain live and available for any who want to enjoy the deep well of materials we have archived. As we said above, we will still be completing a few more episodes of the podcast and also be updating the site with a handful of outstanding things we haven’t gotten to yet. (And who knows – we may pop back in from the Wild Magic with  any interesting tidbits we may discover in the future.)

We have loved sharing all these memories with you. If you ever want to share fun Jewel Riders memories, news, or information, you can always reach out to us at our site email address. Our YouTube channel is chock full of hours upon hours of Jewel Riders videos, and of course, the magic is still yours to take home with on-demand products at our RedBubble Shop. Your support has truly made a difference in keeping the site alive for the last decade.

Thank you for being a friend – not just part of  the magic, but the magic itself.

Friends Together, Friends Forever

Chris & Ronnie
